Program Overview

The Bed Bug Grant Program and the Bed Bug Prevention Materials Program were created as part of the Provincial bed bug reduction strategy to help non-profit organizations reduce the spread of bed bugs.

Bed Bug Grant Program

The Bed Bug Grant Program provides financial assistance to community organizations in support of education, treatment and prevention activities that prevent the spread of bed bugs. The financial assistance is provided in the form of a grant to a maximum of $2,000.

Eligibility

The grant is available to community-based, non-profit organizations including licensed centers. Public institutions such as schools, prisons and hospitals, as well as private businesses, are not eligible for funding.

What types of bed bug treatment and prevention activities are eligible for grant funding?

The following activities and expenses are eligible for grant funding:

1. The costs associated with hiring a professional pest-control firm to treat bed bugs or inspect for them.

2. Purchase of non-chemical controls and products used to prevent bed bugs such as mattress covers, storage containers, monitoring traps and double-sided sticky tape.

3. Purchase or rental of equipment utilized for bed bug prevention and control. Examples include industrial strength dryers, vacuums and spot steamers.

Please note:

Self-treatment, if applied incorrectly, can be costly and ineffective and can lead to a spread of bed bugs to unsuspecting neighbors. Professional extermination services are recommended.

If you have any questions about the eligibility of any treatment or prevention activities being planned, call the bed bug hotline toll-free at 1-855-3MB-BUGS (1-855-362-2847).

How will qualified organizations be compensated for their costs?

After applications are approved, organizations will be required to submit receipts and/or proof of payment for all expenses in order to be reimbursed. Receipts must be directly related to the cost of treatment or prevention. Cheques must be made payable to an organization, not to an individual.
